Apex Access Group — environmental de-vegetation works at height

Vegetation clearance & invasive species control

Lineside, embankment and pre-inspection vegetation clearance plus invasive species control on rail, highways and infrastructure — delivered under possession or traffic management.

What is rail vegetation clearance?

De-vegetation is the controlled clearance of scrub, saplings, overgrowth and invasive plant species from the infrastructure estate — embankments, cuttings, verges and the structures themselves. On the rail and highway network it is both a safety and an asset-management task: unchecked growth obscures structures from inspection, destabilises slopes, blocks drainage, fouls sightlines and damages masonry as roots exploit cracks. Apex's environmental teams clear vegetation ahead of structural examinations, as part of slope-stabilisation and drainage programmes, and as standalone lineside management — working by rope access and from the ground where plant can't reach. The same teams handle invasive and non-native species: identification, treatment and management programmes, plus full excavation, removal and licensed disposal where eradication is required. All works are delivered by RISQS-accredited teams under Network Rail possessions and National Highways traffic management, planned around access windows and signed off with the records the asset owner needs.

How we deliver.

Embankment de-vegetation

Clearance of scrub, saplings and overgrowth from rail and highway embankments, cuttings and verges — opening the slope up for inspection, drainage or stabilisation works. Delivered by RISQS-accredited teams under Network Rail possessions and National Highways traffic management.

Pre-inspection de-vegetation

Targeted vegetation clearance ahead of structural examination — stripping growth from bridges, retaining walls, culverts and rock faces so the asset engineer can survey a clean, fully visible surface. Programmed to land just before the inspection window.

Invasive species

Identification, treatment and management of controlled invasive and injurious weeds — such as Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed — under PCA-aligned, insurance-backed programmes, with monitoring and reporting across the infrastructure estate.

Non-native species removal

Excavation, removal and licensed off-site disposal of non-native and notifiable plant material — full eradication where treatment alone won't meet the programme or a planning condition, with Environment Agency-compliant duty-of-care documentation.

Where we deliver.

Vegetation clearance and invasive species control are needed wherever unchecked growth threatens infrastructure, inspection access, drainage or slope stability. Apex delivers across the UK.

FAQs.

What is pre-inspection de-vegetation?
Targeted clearance of vegetation from a structure — bridge, retaining wall, culvert or rock face — so it can be examined. Growth is stripped back to expose the full surface, programmed to finish just before the inspection so the asset engineer surveys a clean, fully visible face.
Can you clear vegetation during a rail possession?
Yes — our teams are RISQS-accredited and work under Network Rail possessions and National Highways traffic management, planned around the access window with the right PTS/COSS competencies on site.
Do you handle invasive species as well as general clearance?
Yes — alongside scrub and overgrowth clearance we identify, treat and manage controlled invasive and injurious weeds under PCA-aligned, insurance-backed programmes, including full excavation and licensed disposal where eradication is required.
What happens to the cleared material?
Arisings are chipped, mulched, removed or disposed of under full duty of care. Controlled or notifiable plant material is handled as regulated waste with Environment Agency-compliant documentation.
Do you work on rail and highways?
Yes — Apex's environmental teams are RISQS-accredited for Network Rail possession works and experienced in National Highways traffic-management protocols. We deliver lineside vegetation clearance, embankment de-vegetation and invasive species control across the rail and highway estates.
