What is a syphonic drainage contractor?
Rope-access pipework covers the full installation-repair-test cycle on high-level rainwater systems — syphonic drainage runs on warehouses and large-roof buildings, traditional gravity rainwater goods on commercial and heritage facades, and the gutters, downpipes and hopper heads that drain them. Apex teams hold IRATA Level 3 plus the specialist competence (CIBSE-aligned drainage design knowledge, BS EN 12056 testing) needed for syphonic work. The technique avoids scaffold on facades where a one-off pipework intervention doesn't justify the access cost, and lets us deliver gutter clearance and bracket replacement programmes across large estates economically. New installations are issued with O&M packs, flow-test certificates and as-built drawings ready for the building's H&S file.

What is syphonic drainage?
Syphonic drainage uses negative pressure inside the pipe to discharge rainwater much faster than gravity drainage — at full flow it runs as a 'plug' of water filling the pipe completely. This lets large roofs drain through far fewer downpipes than a traditional gravity system. Common on warehouses, distribution centres and large commercial roofs.
Can you repair existing syphonic systems that aren't working properly?
Yes — common failure modes (blocked outlets, damaged primings, vortex breakers missing) are all repairable in-situ. Apex's team diagnoses the failure, identifies the corrective scope, and delivers component replacement or full re-balancing as needed. Flow tests on completion confirm the system is back to design performance.
Do you handle gutter clearance on heritage buildings?
Yes — facade-level gutter clearance is one of our highest-frequency heritage scopes. Blocked gutters drive water into the fabric below, causing decay. Apex's rope teams clear gutters without scaffold, photograph defects (bracket failure, joint leaks, cracked sections) and quote any remedial works in the same survey visit.
What's the cost benefit vs scaffold for pipework repair?
Rope access typically saves 60-80% of the access cost on small to medium pipework scopes (under 200 linear metres). On larger refurb projects scaffold may still be cheaper per metre due to productivity gains; we'll quote both options where it's a genuine close call.
Can you provide as-built drawings and O&M packs?
Yes — every new installation is issued with as-built drawings, materials lists, manufacturer warranty docs and a maintenance schedule. The pack is sized for the building's H&S file and ongoing facilities management.
